The Great Smoky Mountains are no longer free to everyone. BY BRANDIE DELVISCO   The Great Smoky Mountains are the oldest in the world, and until now, it has been free to visit. Beginning March 1, 2023, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be implementing the proposed “Park It Forward Program.” These fees are going to provide much needed revenue for protecting resources, maintaining trails, roads, historic structures and facilities. The fees are going to stay in the park, making the outdoor adventure better for everyone year-round.    The cost of the tags will be small in comparison to the benefits that all who visit the park will be able to enjoy, such as $5 dollars for a day pass, $15 weekly, and a $40 annual pass. These tags are not replaceable if lost, refundable, transferable to another vehicle, or upgradeable. A license plate number is linked to each tag. This tag will allow you to park anywhere within the boundaries of the park. Tags are available for purchase online or o
